With Love and Honor...

The people of my generation are soft. We have it so easy, and we take it all for granted. I'm worried about Cara (and all my "children-to-be" *wink, wink*), I wonder how people of their generation will be. I have learned so much from my grandparents. I hold deep respect and admiration for the lives they led.

Lolo Manoling was very strict and square—understandably so because he was a military man and an aristocrat—he lived on rules. He was a gorgeous man— tall and mestizo with the finest facial features and beautiful brooding eyes —his presence commanded immediate respect, Papa felt very small in his presence. Extremely quiet but concise, a little too frank at times.

Lola Puring was the exact opposite. Rules were almost of no importance to her, hers was a life of faith and prayer. Lola was a teacher, thus, she had a great deal of patience and tried to see the beauty in everything, that being so, she was never in a foul mood. She was an easy touch but not an easy meat as she was a very intelligent woman. She was only about 5 feet 5 inches tall at the most but looked much much taller because of the way she carried herself. She did not care for luxury yet she looked very expensive and classy. She took everything with a grain of salt and a whole bunch of prayer, she knew that God always had a way of making things fall into place.

I guess it's safe to say that they were a perfect match. Lolo, cold and hard. Lola, warm and tender. Lolo believed that "fair is fair", Lola was kind to a fault. They taught each other what each other had to learn. Together, they made the perfect couple and raised the perfect family. Lolo and Lola were totally different characters, both were very good people but the goodness manifested in very different ways. The common denominator was that amidst all the adversity of their time they were both strong enough to keep their honesty and integrity. They passed away a few years before I got married and had Cara. How I wish Cara had met them.
To my dearest Lolo and Lola, Happy Birthday.

Pitoy Moreno

The National Artist title is given by virtue of a Presidential Proclamation. It is a title given to a Filipino who has been given the highest recognition for having made significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts.

Part of 2009's roster of National Artists is world-renowned fashion designer Jose 'Pitoy' Moreno. The person who put the Philippines on the fashion map of the world. Philippine fabrics like the jusi, the pina, and the lepanto were made known to the world by Pitoy. His dresses aren't only beautiful to look at, they are also of exquisite workmanship.

Some people think somebody deserves receiving the National Artist title more than Pitoy Moreno. Some say the honor was granted as a "political favor". For me, I think it was simply giving the award to someone who truly fit the bill — he is in some ways nationalistic, and in every way artistic.

What We Did This Weekend

For the first time this season game was on a Saturday, and better yet, at 2pm. Most games are on Sundays at 4, so it sort of takes up your whole day--whole weekend for that matter, since games on Sundays mean there's practice on Saturdays. This weekend Jai was done by 4pm instead of the usual 6pm, leaving us with a little extra time in our hands. And the whole of Sunday.

The first thing we saw on our way out of the big dome:

Hahaha, scary! I've been thinking of my Halloween costume pa naman.
This could be it. The person behind that mask turned out to be Jai's very
goodlooking cousin, Alfonso.

Saturday was also Tito Chot's birthday. Dinner at his house. We went straight there after the game. I look forward to any occassion hosted by Tito Chot and Tita Cherry, there's always good food -- and great company, of course.

Alfonso again. Cara loves him!

Ice and Cara.
(
Check out Jai and Cara's matching t-shirts.)

Tita Cherry, Mosh, and Cara-bao.

We had to leave early because Jai wanted to watch the replay at home. I was surprised he wanted to watch the replay this time, he hates watching replays. I thought the game was boring, not worth watching again. Hehe.

We woke up late on Sunday, around lunch time na. We had lunch here at home. Mama had steak, prawns, and my favorite roasted chicken. When Cara saw the food she goes, "Wow! Steak!" and kept jumping around the dining area telling everyone there was steak! I didn't know she was this much of a carnivore!

We heard mass at 5 and bought McDonald's--thought that was dinner for us already. Then Jai's parents invites us to the new Country Side. Game kami! Isaw, chicharon bulaklak, and mangga't bagoong. Nothing better than all these Filipino comfort food to cap off what seems like an all-you-can-eat weekend fiesta! No more space for dessert.

The best part of the weekend was that we got to hear mass as a family. We don't really get to do this a lot because of Jai's schedule, but this weekend he was ours. :-)

Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend as much as we did!

NEXT WEEKEND:
09 Aug 2009
ATENEO vs. LA SALLE
I still need tickets!

Cara Calls It A Day

Cara was super excited for today's game. She made sure she looked her best.

Lipstick. Check. Eye makeup. Check. Big earrings. Check. Shades. Check.

When she got home she told her yaya nag-flying kiss daw sa kanya si Rabeh, hindi naman totoo! She also told yaya she saw Emman, Aw-aw(Zags), Noy-noy(Nonoy), Coach Jon, Debbie and Michelle. Oh, and Baby Bop (a.k.a Domeng) pala! Looks like she really had fun today, otherwise, she wouldn't have made kwento to her yaya.

This is what she did naman when she got home:

She put stickers on herself, on Mommy's laptop, and on
Mama Kay (wasn't able to take pictures of mama. Sayang!)

Kawawa naman my laptop.
I find it very cute though. I love the creativity.

I think she's finally sleepy.
Or maybe she just missed Daddy.
Goodnight world.

Cara's Shopping Day

Cara and I went out today. We went to U.P.I.S. to meet up with Papa and Mama, then went to Trinoma to buy clothes for Cara. Her clothes are too tight on her na. Takaw kasi. Lots of nice clothes for children. Posted pictures of the dresses we got for her.

Th
e clothes are all from the department store. Nothing more than Php 400. Recession chic. Hehe. No, it's not that -- it's just not worth buying kids expensive clothes since they grow so quickly.

She looks so sweet and feminine in a dress. People who see her for the first time thinks she's a little boy. That's why I want her to wear girly clothes all the time, just to make it clear to everyone that she's a little girl.

Surprise, surpise!

SURPRISE! I now have a blog. I don't know how long I can keep this going, but I'm just happy I started. My writing skills are now non-existent, this is very good practice for me.

SURPRISE! SURPRISE! Ateneo lost to UP! Not necessarily a bad thing. A breather in amongst the craziness is sometimes all we need to give us a bit more energy to keep on going. Good luck to the Blue Eagles!

Can't think of anything else to write. Proof that my writing skills are now non-existent. Should do this everyday.

Goodbye for now. Hope you are enjoying the long weekend.

Love,
K

P.S.
Listen to MAGIC 89.9's BOYS NIGHT OUT tonight.
Jai and the rest of the Blue Crew staff will be there.
They might be giving away free shirts.
